* Foamettes *
For the second consecutive GMCLA show, I am a Foamettes. The Foamettes are basically puppeteers conceived and created by Phil - a total genius. These numbers are done in pure black light and they are simply magical.

For the X-mas show, we are reprising the "12 Days of X-mas" number (for the last time). I had been in the audience the first two times they did it and I was just simply floored. Therefore when they announced that it was going to be reprised, I had to be involved. There are 28 puppeteers and over 100 puppets. The number is fast, furious, hilarious, and just pure chaos (I like chaos).

Now I told myself that I wasn't gonna vent, but this is my bitter world... so
First of all auditions were held to be a Foamette. My experience with the last show, there are some guys who are just not coordinated and should not have been in the number. Due to traffic, I was late to auditons and totally had to wing it - they had already shown everyone the number and were asking people to perform it. Altought I wasn't horrible, I wasn't perfect. There were a few guys who had the luxury of getting to learn the number totally flaied. Well bottom line was only 15 people showed so everyone got in - it just depends on what part you got. Eventually they got 13 plus 2 alternates that didn't have to audition.

At the first rehearsal, I was slightly disappointed to only get one part - 10 leaping lords - and I was far stage right. But I sucked it up and said - I'm gonna have fun with this. And I tried to look on the positive and say, hey I'm not in the middle where there is massive collisions and I won't be that claustrophobic. We do this in pitch black wearing black hoods!

Well last night, 4th rehearsal I got a bit more disappointed. Things to note are - I have been at every rehearsal and I have been working on my lone part diligently. There are many guys who are veterans in the number who are trying to direct the number so it's very aggravating trying to learn it when some queens are trying to direct you while the diretor gives you another note. I found out last night that they changed my part so I do not even get a puppet! Basically I move a case onstage. I open one box. I sit for 70% of the number. Then I pull a string or coordinate with another chorus member to make a leaping lord fly away. Then I cover 2 boxes and I remove one and I leave. On paper I do 6 things whereas everyone else does 4-5. But I don't get a puppet! I just sit and crawl around in the dark like some ninja.

So I kept telling myself, don't vent just have fun. But honestly, I'm not that pleased. I auditioned. I have been to EVERY rehearsal. I work diligently on my stuff. I help out before and after cleaning up and putting away set pieces. And in my opinion I got screwed. OH well. I just had to bitch for a bit. Part of me is still thrilled to be in the number and YES I know every part is important. It's just annoying having to sit offstage while the other 27 guys are running around rampantly trying to do 2-3 puppet moves while I just watch. Another aggravating thing is that some guys haven't even SHOWN UP TO REHEARSALS once. We open on 12/19. SO WTF?

And you ask me why I'm bitter. Anyways I'm not a quitter and I have a good spirit - so of course I'll stick it out. And I'm sure I'll be involved in future Foamette productions - you know what they say... "once a Foamette, always a Foamette". I hope a get a t-shirt, damnit!

You can be my person Foamette and play with my puppet!

I think it's great that at least you have a part in the production and sounds like it's still an important part.
